Nada….

Not much going on that I think people might give a crap about.

Most of the time I’m just grumpy at work and want to go after the young girl that spends most of her day texting on her phone instead of working. But if I complained about that, then this blog would be about nothing but that chick.  Which I think would be more boring than if I didn’t type anything up.

I haven’t dug into any new crochet patterns or projects lately.  I think I might though for the coming winter season.   I’d like to try a new hat pattern and perhaps a scarf for myself to enjoy.    I do know of a distant friend that is having a baby and would like to make her a couple of things for the kid, Thankfully she’s not due until June of next year so I have time figure out what I’m going to make and get what I need to make it.    Maybe a teddy ghan and hat, sweater, bootie set as well.  It’s too early to know the baby’s sex, so will use some non gender specific colors, But I want to keep it bright, so will use a mix of colors if I can.   I’ve always enjoyed going to Attic24′s blog and checking out her latest goings on.  She uses colors that are vibrant in her decorating, crochet, and photography that make you say “oooo” and I figured I would go through her site and check out all her crochet for some inspiration as to the colors in a baby blanket for my friend.

Here’s some links to a Teddyghan or Bearghan for ya:

Whew, 6 months…

Well it only took me six months to check in. haha.

Been busy obviously, and have had stuff to say, but just didn’t find the time or the heart to put it down into a post to send out there.

Today’s rant will be about work:   I started back in October and its been real.  As in a real pain in the ass!  But, its work and that’s hard to come by for many people who want to work, we need the money and it’s steady, that’s all that matters.

We’ll have an opening in the Accounts Receivable department soon.  She’s retiring and is looking forward to it.  They have the ad in the paper and have been looking for some time now.  I don’t believe they’ve done any interviews at all, but they intend too.   My boss asked one of the girls in the office if they had any friends that would need a job with an accounting degree.  She said she had a friend interested, but her degree was in business, but had taken accounting courses.   Originally told by HR, that it HAD to be an accounting degree, the girl told her friend and they didn’t submit a resume.  But the boss told her to tell her friend to send her resume and he’ll look at it.   What they have to offer in payment they cannot afford someone with too much experience, but maybe someone new out of school would accept the position for more of the experience angle, but less pay since they can’t afford someone expecting more.      Well…

Coworker is 24, you can bet her friend is too.  She is also a big Blackberry texter. Either using Blackberry Messenger or just texts.  She spends a Lot of time texting in just the Part Time hours I’m here.   Needless to say, that gets my goat.  Out of the four of us in this office, I have the most work (some with deadlines), and yet here I am part-time. While the others are full-time surfing the net, checking emails, or texting.    God Help Me if they hire her friend, because then Nothing will get done.  And I WILL NOT take on more work at a part-time employment basis.   We shall see, we shall see.

So!  Has anyone crocheted or read a new good book lately they want to share?

I’ve only been making pot holders and want to try making a simple swing type of jacket with very loose mesh feel to it (I’ll add the link later when I’m home. Can’t find it online now).   But haven’t found the right yarn yet.  I received a pot holder recently from a friend and she used carpet wrap yarn and I Love the feel and the weight of it.   Going to have to look up that type of yarn and see whats available and how much.  It’s along the sports weight side of yarn.  Anyone have a good recommendation of a nice sport or DK weight yarn they use for the clothing projects??

UPDATE: Here’s the link to the pattern I want to try, I may have posted before. still haven’t gotten around to making it though.  Chalk and Wool

Catching Up…

The holiday have come and gone.

We’ve had a nice time with family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Good food and conversation with the in-laws at Thanksgiving.  My boys little faces with smiles wide and loud with giggling laughter opening their presents on Christmas morning.  A calm quiet New Year with my husband.

A fun Christmas party with local crochet friends, enjoying their company and good humor.  I’ve crocheted a little bit here and there.  Made several chemo caps to pass on to a friends friend.  I’ve made two winter hats with the Divine Hat pattern, which works up really fast and easy.

Two different sets of fingerless gloves and hats for other family as Christmas gifts.    A Cardiff Cowl (login required but free) for the cold winter days that seem to be hitting Jersey pretty good as of late.

I did start a part time job that feels more like a full time job forced into a tiny hole that is my desk, but it provides some income and still allows me to take the kids to school and pick them up without having to find full time daycare for before or after school.  My niece is 16 and although she’s sporting purple hair these days, she’s a good kid that babysits the boys when they have off from school.

Her eyes are covered to protect her innocence.. HA!

So that saves on the funds for day care as well, because I can pay her less than I would have to at some facility.   So I haven’t had that much time to crochet as much as I want too.

Here’s to a New Year of crafts, crochet, family, learning, and good health !!!

Turkish Cuisine @ Cafe Marmara

My husband and I went out to dinner with my sister and her girlfriend this past Sunday and we went out for Turkish food since her girlfriend is Turkish.   I had never had Turkish food (knowingly), and for the most part stay away from foods from regions I’m not accustomed too.  I have to admit that my stomach is not what it used to be and taking risks with my food can lead to stomach disasters that leave me running to the bathroom.  This of course we joked about while sitting at the table and I had to ask if anything we ate would make us all fight or knock each other over getting to the bathroom. Laughter in understanding was the reply along with an mostly a no answer. My sister, being my sister and having similar body chemistry mentioned it didn’t bother her, so I thought I would be safe.  And I was.

We went to a new place near their home and checked over the menu.  It’s called Cafe Marmara.  After an initial once over, I turned to the desert section and put my attention there.  I left the main course of the dinner up to the hands of everyone else because I knew my husband had had Turkish food before as did everyone else.   The appetizers came out and there were three or four plates of different appetizers on it.  Some that I remember, Humus, Babaganoush, Eggplant salad, and a couple of others.  We all picked and dug into whatever thing we wanted and just went to town.  I liked how it was served in the middle of the table and you grabbed a little bit of what you wanted and put on your little plate to eat.  Lots of times just eating a scoop directly from the appetizer plate.  Same went for the main dishes and desert.  Some of the best foods I’ve had in a long while. Very tasty, and didn’t make me rush to the bathroom with intestine issues.  Some of the main course that I remember from the website pictures are Chicken Shish kebab,  Adana Kebab, Chicken and Lamb Gyro.  We did the Combos that they offered and it was really good, with a little rice as part of the dish.

The one dish that I thought was super good was the Shepherd Salad.  It was so light, but flavorful, crispy and refreshing.  It was obvious that the veggies that went into the dish were fresh and the rest of the food was as well.   Here’s a picture from their website, I have to say that the actual portion was larger than this in the picture, but you get the idea.  YUM!

I ventured to look up a recipe for Shepherd Salad and found one on this blog that looked Very similar to what we had.  Except ours had some feta cheese added to the top of the salad.   I wish I had taken a picture of the table, was really good stuff.  Now that I found the recipe and know it’s very easy to make, it’s one we’ll have to try here at home from time to time.

Thanks for Dinner you guys! It was gooooooood.

Here’s the blog with a bunch of Recipes as well as some pictures of the dishes to make your mouth water!

Oh yeah! …. School started!!

Wonder how many other blogs have been written in the last two weeks about school starting and moms being ever SO happy with finally getting their days back again.

So far they have had a half day and today was their first full day.  My 2nd grader got two bits of homework and my K kid got none. ha-ha. But I’m sure he’ll be coming home with some of his own soon.  K kid loves his homework.

We’ve been entertaining visiting in-laws this past week and a half. Having the boys go to school has given us a day or two off from running around and helps in re-inviting normalcy to their routine again.

Tonight I get to put them to bed at 8pm instead of the summer fun hour of 9:30-10pm.  YEA!  The quiet begins early tonight…
